Surgical & post-operative scar therapy
At The Physiotherapy Centre, we provide advanced, clinically proven post-surgical scar treatment.
Whether you have recently undergone a planned medical procedure, cosmetic surgery, or an emergency operation, the way your deep tissue heals matters. As surgical incisions close, they form scar tissue that can bind to underlying muscles, nerves, and organs. This often leads to a tight, pulling sensation, localised pain, restricted movement, or persistent swelling around the surgical site.
We are here to accelerate your body's natural healing process, restore full mobility, reduce associated pain and tension, and significantly improve the physical feel and aesthetic appearance of your surgical scar.
Explore the specific types of scars we treat below to find out how we can help you move forward:
-
Breast surgery
Scars resulting from oncology treatments (mastectomy/lumpectomy), breast reconstructions, reductions, or cosmetic implants.
-
Orthopaedic Surgery
Including total knee replacements, hip replacements, or spinal surgeries.
-
Abdominal & gynaecological surgery
-
Cosmetic & facial surgery
Such as face lifts or other delicate cosmetic procedures.
Our advanced scar treatment modalities
We do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to post-op recovery. Depending on the age of your scar, your healing stage, and your symptoms, we utilise a combination of cutting-edge therapies:
Bespoke Soft Tissue Techniques (Available at both clinic locations) Our specialists use targeted, hands-on manual therapies to gently mobilise tissue. By working across different layers of tissue, we help restore natural glide, flexibility, and comfort to the area.
LymphTouch® Negative Pressure Therapy (Available at both clinic locations) This state-of-the-art negative pressure device is exceptionally effective for both new and older surgical scars. By applying a gentle lifting vacuum to the skin, it stimulates the lymphatic system to rapidly clear post-op swelling (oedema), improves localized circulation, and decompresses tight tissue layers to reduce pain.
TECAR Therapy (Currently available exclusively at our North Liverpool Clinic). TECAR uses advanced radiofrequency energy to pass safe, deep currents into the targeted tissues. This generates a deep cellular warmth that dramatically accelerates cellular repair, relaxes tight muscles, reduces chronic inflammation, and boosts collagen production for superior scar remodelling.
When should you start post-op scar treatment?
-

Early-stage healing (from approx. 4-6 Weeks)
Once your stitches are removed and the wound is fully closed with no infection, we can begin gentle, non-invasive therapies (like LymphTouch®) to manage swelling and support optimal healing
-

Mature scars (months or years later)
It is never too late to treat a surgical scar. Older, thick, or restrictive scars respond incredibly well to our deep soft tissue techniques and TECAR therapy, helping to restore movement you might have thought was gone for good.
