Episiotomy and perineal tear scar therapy in Liverpool

Dedicated postnatal recovery to restore comfort, confidence, and pelvic mobility

Bringing a child into the world is a momentous journey, but the physical aftereffects of birth can sometimes leave lasting, unspoken challenges. If you experienced an episiotomy or a perineal tear during childbirth, the resulting pelvic scar tissue can cause ongoing physical discomfort, pulling, and emotional distress long after your baby has arrived.

At The Physiotherapy Centre, we provide a safe, private, and deeply compassionate environment to help you heal. You do not have to just "live with" pelvic discomfort or pain—specialised postpartum scar therapy can make a profound difference to your physical and emotional well-being.

Common Symptoms of Pelvic Floor & Perineal Scarring

Many women aren't told what to expect from pelvic scar tissue as it matures. Because this area is highly dynamic, it is incredibly common to experience:

  • Tightness or pulling

A restricted, unyielding sensation in the pelvic floor when walking, sitting, or moving.

  • Pain during intimacy

Discomfort or sharp pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) caused by rigid, tight scar tissue.

  • Sensitivity or numbness

Hypersensitivity to touch, irritation from clothing, or a frustrating lack of sensation in the area.

  • Pelvic floor restriction

Feeling like your pelvic floor muscles are sore, overactive, or unable to relax properly due to the scar tension.

Our advanced pelvic scar treatments & technology

Because the pelvic region requires incredibly precise and gentle care, we tailor every recovery plan to your comfort level, utilising a specialised toolkit of advanced therapies across our locations:

  • Bespoke pelvic soft tissue techniques (Available at both clinic locations) Our pelvic health specialist physiotherapists can use highly targeted, gentle hands-on manual therapies to release tissue in the perineal tissue. By restoring natural elasticity and "glide" to the different tissue layers, we help alleviate that stubborn pulling sensation.

  • TECAR Therapy (Currently available exclusively at our North Liverpool Clinic). Using advanced radio-frequency energy, TECAR delivers a deep, soothing cellular warmth to the targeted tissues. This non-invasive treatment dramatically accelerates deep tissue remodeling, improves collagen flexibility, and helps to deeply relax overactive, tight pelvic floor structures to effectively relieve pain during intimacy.

  • PelviPower™ Magnetic Field Stimulation (Available at our South Liverpool Clinic) For pain and tension relief, we utilise the revolutionary PelviPower™ chair. This treatment is completely non-invasive - you remain fully clothed while comfortable magnetic pulses target the deep pelvic floor tissues. It works beautifully to interrupt chronic pain signals, relax guarded muscles surrounding the scar, and gently restore pelvic floor harmony without any direct contact with the sensitive area.Because the pelvic region requires incredibly precise and gentle care, we tailor every recovery plan to your comfort level, utilising a specialized toolkit of advanced therapies across our locations:

When can I start treatment?

We can begin gentle scar therapy once your postpartum check has been completed (usually from 6–8 weeks onwards), ensuring all stitches have dissolved and the area is fully closed. However, it is never too late. Whether you gave birth a few months ago or several years ago, pelvic scar tissue remains highly responsive to targeted physical therapy.
