C-Section scar treatment in Liverpool

At The Physiotherapy Centre, we provide expert and highly effective C-section scar therapy.

Bringing your baby into the world via a Caesarean section is a major abdominal surgery, yet many mums are discharged with very little advice on how to care for their recovery tissue. As a C-section scar heals, it doesn't just affect the surface of your skin; it forms deep architectural layers of scar tissue that can bind to your abdominal muscles, bladder, and uterus.

Changes in tissue tension and altered lymphatic function, in addition to muscle lengthening, are often causes that frustrating ‘C-section shelf’ overhang, a feeling of disconnection from your core - or a strange mixture of numbness and hypersensitivity.

We are here to help you regain comfort, movement, and confidence in your postpartum body.

Common post-c-section scar symptoms we treat

It is incredibly common for mums to experience symptoms months, or even years, after giving birth. We can help you if you are experiencing:

  • The 'C-Section Shelf'

Where tight, tethered internal scar tissue pulls inward, causing the tissue above it to overhang.

  • Numbness, tingling, or sensitivity

Nerve irritation that makes the area feel disconnected or uncomfortable against clothing.

  • Lower back or pelvic pain

Restricted abdominal tissue pulling on your posture and affecting your pelvic floor and core muscle function.

  • Pulling or tightness

A dragging sensation when you stretch, stand tall, or lift your baby.

Our advanced c-section treatments & technology

We tailor every postpartum recovery plan to your specific body and timeline, utilising a brilliant toolkit of advanced therapies across our locations:

  • Bespoke Soft Tissue & Manual Release (Available at both clinic locations). Using precise, gentle hands-on techniques, we work to release the restrictions between your skin and your abdominal wall. This improves the "glide" of the tissue, helping to flatten the scar's appearance and restore core connection.

  • LymphTouch® Negative Pressure Therapy (Available at both clinic locations). Perfect for gently lifting tissue layers that have become restricted. LymphTouch® decompresses tight areas, stimulates local circulation, and is fantastic for easing that stubborn post-op numbness and swelling.

  • TECAR Therapy (Currently available exclusively at our Crosby clinic) Using state-of-the-art radiofrequency, TECAR delivers deep, soothing cellular warmth to the abdomen. It dramatically accelerates tissue remodelling, boosts collagen production to improve the look of the scar, and deeply relaxes tight, restricted core muscles.

When should you start post-op scar treatment?

We can begin gentle scar therapy as early as 4 to 8 weeks postpartum, provided your GP or midwife has confirmed your incision is fully closed and healed. However, it is never too late. Even if your C-section was 10 years ago, older scar tissue remains highly responsive to treatment.
